Eight breweries, one shared mission: to protect and keep alive authentic Flanders Red Ale. Within HORARB, the brewers combine their knowledge and experience to safeguard the original production method, the quality and the distinct character of this unique beer tradition.
Together, they are committed to the recognition and promotion of "Vlaams roodbruin bier / Flanders Red Ale”, so that the craftsmanship passed down through generations will be preserved for the future.
FLANDERS RED ALE is a distinctive beer style with deep roots in the Flemish brewing tradition.
The beer owes its character to a special combination of mixed fermentation, aging on oak wood, and the brewer's craftsmanship.
We unite the brewers of Flanders Red Ale and jointly safeguard the authentic production method and the protected designation. In this way, we protect the quality and distinct character of this unique beer style.
Keeping an age-old Flemish beer tradition alive. We protect the craftsmanship, the mixed fermentation and the characteristic traditional maturation in upright oak foeders that make Flanders Red Ale so unique.
Making Flanders Red Ale better known in Belgium and abroad and passing on this special beer culture to future generations. So that its origin, quality and authentic character are preserved in the future as well.
You can recognize this label on authentic “Vlaams roodbruin bier / Flanders Red Ale”. It stands for a beer brewed according to the protected tradition: mixed fermentation, aged wholly or partly in upright oak foeders, and produced within the recognized geographical area, namely South West Flanders.
The label protects not only a name, but also the origin, craftsmanship and tradition behind the beer. So as a beer lover, you know that what’s in your glass is truly Flanders Red Ale.
Brewed according to the rules of the craft.
